This review is purely about the food. The rooms are basic and a little dated, but clean and good enough. I have been travelling all over Cumbria with work and when I stayed here I didn't have huge expectations. I have got to say that I was surprised by the quality of the food here. It's simple British food done to an amazing standard and the lamb dish below is the best dish I have had on my travels. Better than the posh places in Windermere and Ambleside. It's rare you get unfussy simple food done so well done like this.

This hotel is a bit understated in an any website you look at! It is an excellent hotel, not just good; great attentive staff, superb breakfast, and the fish and chips dinner was simply magnificent. You can't beat freshly caught fish, in my opinion. Some websites state that guests don't get towels nor soap in some rooms. This is UNTRUE. Hotel.com needs to update their facts. There is an excellent bar with a wide choice of beers/lagers. Four of us had just completed a 52 miles cycle trip from Carlisle, so this bar was a very welcome sight! Bedrooms were immaculate and the beds comfortable. HIGHLY recommend this hotel.
I had a single room, was exactly what you expected, and was very clean. Food was brilliant, the service was very polite and very fast, and the Beer was cold. Over all very happy with my £65 room and £30 meal
Came for a family meal with parents and daughter Wow!!! Fantastic value for money with a great choice on the lunchtime menu. A very special mention to Charlotte, whose customer service and organisation was exemplary. 11/10 - so refreshing to see a young person take care and pride in her job. Well done!!! We'll be back next year!!!
Popped in one afternoon while staying local very nice surroundings good atmosphere friendly staff great meals
2am check in managed as someone was leaving the hotel. Receptionist was on hand to book us in and give us advice. Morning breakfast was freshly made on request. Good price @£65 for the on suite booked on same day.
Not a hotel guest— Just ate at the restaurant. We had a very pleasant, attentive, and enthusiastic host! The food was also great.
Had a late lunch/early dinner today. Fantastic food. Great selection and generous portions. Would highly recommend. Adrian was really sociable and knowledgeable about local area. Will come back again.
The food is absolutely sublime in this place. And the lady behind the bar who served us is really attentative and so friendly. We are only here for the weekend but will definitely be returning before we go home..
